David Frohlich is Director of Digital World Research Centre at the University of Surrey and Professor of Interaction Design. He joined the Centre in January 2005 to establish a new research agenda on user-centred innovation in digital media technology.

Current work includes a mixture of PhD and Research Council projects exploring a variety of new media futures relating to digital storytelling, personal media collections, and community news and arts. His most recent book with Risto Sarvas charts the history of domestic photography 'From snapshots to social media: The changing picture of domestic photography'. More >

Kristina Langhein is a technophile and has been enthusiastically supporting the DWRC team since October 2009, on a part-time basis.

Kristina Langhein is a designer and communications consultant. She is the winner of a Student Design Award from the RSA; the recipient of a Merit Award from the D&AD and the Type Directors Club New York and a finalist in the Design Effectiveness Awards. Dr Kristen Ali Eglinton

Kristen is an applied visual ethnographer and qualitative researcher; areas of focus include youth identities (sexualities, gender, race), visual material culture, educational exclusions, human geography, and innovative, often visual, methodologies for community and youth development. Her doctoral research used multi-sited ethnography to understand how youth in two parts of the world (New York City and rural sub-Arctic Canada), used visual material culture in their everyday lives. Since finishing her doctorate, Kristen has been working on several projects featuring the use of participatory digital media including one on Indigenous identities and community development in the circumpolar North, and another on youth homelessness in transnational contexts. Dr Christopher Lim Sze Chong

Christopher Lim was appointed as a research fellow in Dec 2009 and works in the SUS-IT project. Prior to this he was a senior research coordinator for a design consultancy based in Glasgow. His PhD was in the area of Inclusive design where he advocates a new approach for designing technological products, which in addition to considering age related decline in ability, takes into account both the formative age when the use of technologies is first learnt, and the ‘technology era’ in which this occurred. Clare Sumpner

Clare was appointed as the research fellow in November 2011 working on the Interactive Newsprint Project which examines how communities can find more effective ways of connecting to local news and information through the use of interactive newsprint. Before joining the Digital World Research Centre, Clare Sumpner was Research Manager at the BBC’s Future Media department, managing a portfolio of digital media audience research projects. She worked on the BBC Coast Interactive Mobile experience (which won a BAFTA) and has also worked on BBC News for Mobile, BBC iplayer for ipad and various interactive services such as Freeview.
